Autumn Arrives in Wisconsin: Understanding the Fall Equinox
As the crisp air sets in and the leaves begin to change, the arrival of fall is officially marked by the Fall Equinox. This year, the equinox falls on September 22nd. But what exactly is it?
The Fall Equinox occurs when the sun is directly above the equator, resulting in nearly equal amounts of daylight and nighttime across the globe. This astronomical event signals the shift from summer to fall, with the Northern Hemisphere tilting further away from the sun. Days will gradually become shorter, and nights longer, leading us into the colder months.
This is a favorite time of year for many. It's easy to embrace the beauty of the season—apple picking, pumpkin patches, and the vibrant colors of the changing leaves. It’s a perfect moment to pause and appreciate the balance of light and dark before we fully settle into autumn.
So grab your favorite sweater and a cup of cider, and enjoy the beauty of Wisconsin's fall!
